Mill Creek Trip

Fished Mill Creek today and had mild success. I managed two fish, both rainbows and both beautiful. The first fish I caught was upstream of the Mark Twain National Forest picnic area and the second was from Bohigian Access. The first fish fell to a size 14 elk hair caddis and the second to a size 14 hares ear variant fished deep with a split shot. This was my first trip to Mill Creek and will be back. I will have a full write up on the stream and the area to follow. As always no fish were harmed in the writing of this blog.

Current River Trip

I am a few days late getting this posted but as I feared the Meramec was a little too high still, so we ended up fishing the Blue Ribbon Section of the Current. The recent flood on the Current is still very evident. There are downed trees, piles of sand and even a change is some of the holes on the river(at least in my opinion). All the same we caught fish. To the left is a picture of a Brown that my friend Bill caught down around Baptist Camp. He went upstream of the access and I went down. That was the only fish we pulled out of there. We ran into a couple other guys who were struggling as well so Bill and I quickly changed our game plan and fished the section of stream between Tan Vat and Montauk and got on some fish. We caught fish on a regular basis the rest of the day. Flies of the day seemed to be a size sixteen Parachute Adams when some mayflies starting coming off as I had some success with that, but mostly size fourteen Pheasant Tails. We tried both bead head and non bead head nymphs, the the fish really seemed to go after the non bead head nymphs with a small split shot a few inches above the end of the line. Until next time(which will be Sunday and Monday as I have a couple days of fishing planned) I will be sitting at my vice replenishing the fly boxes I tore up on the Current.

Dry Fork of the Meremac

With turkey season closing on Sunday I am getting back to the trout. The past few weeks has brought some great fishing weather in Missouri and I have been in the woods. I am trying to get back on the water and the rivers are flooding again and rain is forecasted about every three hours. This Monday we are trying to get to the Dry Fork but it is not looking too promising. The Current River should remain fishable and will be Plan "B".

Turkey Success

First I want to say my sign off on my last post was inspired by Mr. Tom Chandler from www.troutunderground.com. He seems to have a lot of fun with his blog and has been entertaining me on a daily basis for over a year now. With that being said my stepdad and I whacked a nice double in the turkey woods this year.

Both birds had one inch spurs and ten inch beards. It was my stepdads first turkey so the fact we shot them together gives it that much more meaning. The birds were taken in Crawford county Missouri.

Getting Serious

I have a lot going on right now with turkey season under way and getting school situated for the fall, but I am going to start getting serious about this blog. Now that is a picture of a cutthroat before anyone asks. That picture was taken in Yellowstone last summer. I make an annual trip to fish the park every summer and hopefully starting this year will start an annual fall trip as well. I have been fishing plenty of Missouri streams lately and as soon as I get some pictures together will start posting a few times a week about where I fished and the conditions. Going out to get a waterproof digital camera this week. See you at the Best Buy camera counter.....

I am completely new to this thing. I am a blog virgin but lets figure this out together. I read a lot of fishing blogs and so I figured why not give you my perspective. I am going to play with this and try to put a good looking layout together over the next few weeks, then onto the content I have been writing down. Wish me luck.
